Shiny Penny

If you have kids, you’ve probably had one of those moments with your little one that just made you want to squeeze her cheeks and give her a big hug when she does or says something really beautiful that brings a warm and fuzzy feeling to your heart?!  I had one of those moments earlier today.

My daughter found a shiny new penny on the ground.  This is the conversation that followed:

HER: “Mama, did you know this penny says, ‘In God We Trust’?”

ME: “Yes, all money says that to remind us that we should trust in Him and not in money.”

HER: “Even the dollar says that.”

ME: “That’s right, God is everywhere.  Even money wants us to remember that it comes and goes, but God is forever.”

HER: “Yeah, and when He gets really old, he just gets young again.”

That just made my heart melt!  Kids aren’t complicated, they just know what they know!  What’s OUR problem?!  We over analyze and always need answers – answers we probably wouldn’t comprehend even if we actually used 100% of our brains!

God’s gentle reminder today could not have come at a better time.  As I’m sure many out there are struggling financially, my family is also getting through some challenging times.  We’re taking it day by day.

Thankfully, I had just enough cash from hubby’s paycheck this week to cover:

  1. the overdue telephone bill (service is restored!!!)
  2. last month’s water bill (this way service goes uninterrupted – we need our daily showers!!!)
  3. get a money order for a very old debt that must be paid or we end up in court
  4. charitable donation to a guy on a street corner
  5. leftover cash for a little bit of gas.

So there’s hope.  When we put our trust in God, He makes everything work out.  Regardless of our circumstances, He comes through.

Today’s Daysie says:

THIS IS MY COMMANDMENT – THAT YOU LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.  John 15:12

AMEN!  I had a funny feeling He would show up in my Daysies calendar too!  That’s definitely a message we should all remember!  =)

The JOY of getting stuff done!

It was a great day today – very productive.  Let’s see, here’s what I did while Dad stayed home with the kids…

  • took a load of paperwork to be shredded
  • stopped at the bank
  • visited a bookstore with a friend and her little boy
  • had lunch with them (that was nice)
  • bought some cleaning supplies and other stuff at the store
  • finished some school supply shopping

My plan was to workout after shopping with my girlfriend, but God must have wanted us to spend quality time together and I’m thankful we did.  So no workout today, but on Monday…it’s a MUST!!!  Oh, and Tuesday I may go swimming.  That burns a lot of calories.  WOOHOO!!!

Anyway, in the evening I picked up the rest of the gang and…

  • went to a birthday party for a friend and her hubby
  • washed and dried a load of laundry (1 down, a gagillion more to go! LOL)

I’ll say that was a beautiful start to the weekend!  THANK YOU, GOD, for blessing me today!!!

You are beautiful…and more

I came across this site today: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. (www.youarebeautiful.com) What an amazing project! I got my SASE ready, ordered free stickers and plan to go to town when they come in! You should check it out! I was having a “bad hair day” and this brought a smile to my face. My hair’s still outta whack, but at least there’s hope!!

Yesterday was interesting. For one, I now feel confident that my boys will never go hungry so long as there’s cake mix in the house.

They made a *yummy* funfetti cake with white whipped frosting – ALL BY THEMSELVES! It was all gone by bedtime! Our family loves to bake! Aaaggghhh! Then we wonder why we have a little extra “cushion” around the waist!

I also had a good time at school with my daughter! It was “P” day. We wore our pajamas, put pennies in playdough, ate pizzas for snack, and stuffed pillows. Oh, and we also planted some marigolds in pots!

Waiting for my husband to pick us up, we admired the wildflowers on the other side of the fence. For all I know, they could have been weeds, but growing together out of one large patch of grass – they looked so amazing!

OH, and I finally finished my pieces for the 4×4 Chunky Book Swap I’m in – my very 1st AB SWAP! Each participant was to make 26 original or color copies of their creations (26 because there are that many participants), based on the theme – Things that go bump in the night.

I immediately had a vision of this tooth fairy flying around enroute to her next destination. I imagined her getting disoriented and crashing into the side of a house. I know that sound horrible, but in my vision she didn’t get hurt, she just had a little BUMP. Then, of course – like in the cartoons, the rotating stars start going round her head from the impact. I thought it would be comical! If only I could portray that image on paper. Well, I can’t draw to save my life and all my image searches came up with ugly tooth fairies. My husband gave it a try and drew up a very cute fairy, but I decided to use it for something else (it didn’t look disoriented enough – LOL). Instead I took an old picture and altered it on the computer. Here’s the finished product…

dscf5304.JPGI had so much fun working on it and can’t wait to join another swap!

One of my resolutions this year was to make time for myself to work on little projects that allow me to express my creative side. I’m always starting things and not finishing because they require time – uninterrupted, no children around – time! Swaps, for me, seem to fit right in with my style – they are structured, theme-oriented, yet simple enough to do anytime.

I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated at first, but once I got going, I was in a different world…can’t wait for the next one! Now I just have to put them in the mail and wait for the put-together chunky book that I’ll get back from our hostess. It’ll be fun to see what everyone else did. I’m sure it’ll give me all sorts of inspiration!

Today’s quote from my Daysies calendar is:

“IF YOU WOULD BE LOVED, LOVE AND BE LOVABLE.”

Ya gotta love it!!! =)
